The volcanic peak of Mount Teide dominates Tenerife, the largest island of the Canaries. The north has a rocky coastline and lush vegetation. Totally different the south has a better sunshine record, an unusual lunar landscape with volcanic sandy beaches. The only major windsurf venue is El Medano, 20 minutes from the airport. The small town is situated on sandy bays with wonderful conditions for intermediate to advanced windsurfers. The North East trade winds are deflected by Teide’s crater wall and accelerated by strong thermal currents. This, combined with the superb Atlantic rollers provide wave sailing at its best. There two sailing venues either in South Bay with the launch directly from the beach at the Hotel Tenerife Sur or the challenging North Bay with world class conditions.

There is a lot to do in Tenerife, suiting couples, families or groups of friends. With an enormous National park with the volcano itself accessible by cable car; spending time spent off the water is not a problem. The restaurants have a good reputation with locals and visitors alike. The nightlife runs at a much gentler pace than at Playas des Americas, 40 minutes away by road.
