According to Greek mythology, Rhodes was a gift from Zeus to Helios, the sun god and has the highest sunshine record in Greece. There are limitless historical sites on Rhodes, as well as sparkling Mediterranean water and superb beaches. This island is the largest of the Dodecanese and offers a windsurf venue at Ialyssos in the north and at Prasonisi in the south, both of these blessed with good ‘Meltemi’ wind all summer.

Ialyssos and Trianda are close to the town of Ixia, with lots to do and a  buzzing nightlife,  journey further to Rhodes town, 9kms away, for a more cosmopolitan feel, with its busy harbour, shops and quayside restaurants.
The closest village to Prasonisi is Kattivia, a traditional Greek village, in the midst of olive groves and fields of corn, this rural hamlet offers life at a much slower pace.

Ialyssos

The beach at Ialyssos faces a large open bay, with the clean Meltemi wind blowing cross onshore from the left. Inshore once clear of a moderate shorebreak, the conditions are perfect for slalom blasting, while on the outside the swell forms superb ramps. Typically the wind is a gentle  2-3 in the mornings, suiting the less experienced. In the afternoons, it can reach 5+ perfect for intermediates and above. There is a choice of windsurf centres offering Mistral at the Club Mistral Centre, F2 and JP at the Pro Centre Jurgen Niens. The location has excellent equipment and top quality facilities. Kitesurfing for all levels is now possible at a quieter area, 3kms away where the conditions are more suitable.
